Ellipsis
Ellipsis is a selection of 200 time-lapse photos taken from 60+ hours of footage of the demolition of Division I at the Cook County Department of Corrections in Chicago. Shot from the sidewalk across the street from Tier C, the project marks a historical moment as the oldest parts of the jail become obliterated. Due the jail’s urban location (and at the heart of a Latinx neighborhood), the viewpoint signals what the everyday passerby witnessed as the demolition took place throughout many weeks. The photos are printed on Tyvek, an industrial material used to protect homes or bodies, and positioned on a set of brackets used for engineering blue prints. The interactive presentation allows the viewer to see the time-lapse images as a flip-book.
