I Believe in the Magic of the Hands. And in the Wisdom of the Eyes. I Believe in Rain and Tears. And in the Blood of Infinity. (A. Shakur)

I Believe in the Magic of the Hands… is a sound sculpture that emits audio through a freestanding wall covered in gray fabric on one side and raw at the back. The audio tracks were composed between 2017-18 by ten individuals who were incarcerated at Cook County Jail (Chicago.) Through fictionalized narratives, each individual personified an element of the jail’s interior/exterior in these experimental recordings. As one confronts and navigates the resonant wall, the soundtrack becomes audible through scattered transducers transmitting narratives that evoke the emotional aspects of incarceration within the 96-acre compound.
